Oatman, AZ is located up the hill from Bullhead City and Laughlin on the Colorado River. It is an old Gold Mining Town on the historic US Hwy 66. There you can watch live gunfights and characters dressed in full 1890's attire. As well as the panhandling wild burros walking through town, there are also many fine antique and craft shops.
Oatman, AZ originated over 100 years ago. In 1915, two miners struck a $10 million gold find and within a year, the town's population grew to more than 3,500.
Oatman, AZ was named in honor of Olive Oatman, a young girl, who was kidnapped by an Apache tribe and sold to Mojave Indians. Later on she was rescued in a trade in 1857.
In 1921, a fire destroyed many of the shacks in town, and three years later United Eastern Mines, shut down operations for good. Oatman became a travelers paradise on old U.S. Route 66, where you can travel back in time.
The Oatman Hotel, built in 1902. Clark Gable and Carol Lombard honeymooned at the Oatman Hotel March 18, 1939 after marrying in Kingman. Their room is one of the attractions at the Oatman Hotel.
